In a notable development, the Northern Railway (NR) has achieved a physical progress of more than 80.5 per cent for the Jammu-Udhampur-Katra-Qazigund-Baramulla new rail line project.

The project involves laying of 345 km long new railway line joining the Kashmir Valley with Indian Railways network from Jammu to Baramulla via Udhampur, Katra and Qazigund. It entails an investment of Rs 279.46 billion. It is expected to provide an alternative and a reliable transportation system to Jammu and Kashmir.
