In a bid to push the ‘Hungry for Cargo’ motto, Indian Railways (IR) has undertaken various efforts to improve the freight movement. In a period of merely six months (April 1, 2021 to September 27, 2021) of the current fiscal year (2021-22), the Western Railways (WR) zone has crossed the milestone of generating revenue to the tune of Rs 50 billion. WR has registered almost 20 per cent growth in comparison to the corresponding period of previous year. Further, the revenue from items including industrial salt, coal, cement, automobile and containers, has displayed an increasing trend. The milestone holds significance as it has been achieved amidst the ongoing pandemic.
